Reason For Watford vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips

  • Crystal Palace won each of their last two Premier League matches to nil.
  • The Eagles can jump to as high as 5th place with a win this weekend.
  • Watford have yet to win a Premier League home game this season.
  • The Hornets failed to register in three of their last four games at Vicarage Road.

Who will be in charge of the Hornets?

With Watford again in a state of flux, it remains to be seen whether caretaker boss Hayden Mullins will be in the dugout this weekend or if the club’s third permanent manager of the season so far will be appointed and in place.

Chris Hughton is the early front runner to take the reigns on a full-time basis, but whoever occupies the Hornets hotseat has a tricky assignment to navigate against an in-form Crystal Palace team at Vicarage Road this weekend.

The Eagles battled their way to a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in mid-week, a result that was made all the more impressive by the fact that Palace played over 70 minutes of the contest with 10 men following the early dismissal of Mamadou Sakho.

The 1-0 win was Crystal Palace’s second victory and clean sheet inside the space of the week, following their excellent 2-0 win at Burnley last Saturday.

Roy Hodgson’s men are enjoying a fine campaign overall this term, and another victory this weekend could launch the Eagles to as high as fifth in the Premier League table.

Palace’s roubust rearguard

As always, Palace have been leaning heavily on their defensive strength to gather points this season. Amazing, the Eagles conceded two or fewer goals in 14 of their 15 top flight matches since the summer, shipping just 1.2 goals per 90 minutes on average in total since the summer.

Their focus on keeping things watertight at the back comes at a cost at the other end of the pitch however, and Palace’s return of 14 goals in 15 Premier League games this season makes them the division’s 3rd lowest scorers.

Unsurprisingly then, Crystal Palace’s matches are routinely low scoring affairs – in fact, under 2.5 goals were registered in 10 of their 15 league games in 2019/20, and in five of their most recent seven outings since early October.

Few goals expected

This weekend, the Eagles face a Watford side who have scored fewer goals than any other club in the Premier League since August and despairingly for the Hornets, they hit the net one or fewer times in nine of their last ten matches overall.

Everything points to Saturday’s game between Watford and Crystal Palace being a similarly low scoring contest, and with that considered, we feel that backing under 2.5 goals to be scored is a smart move based on the available evidence.

Our correct score prediction follows the same low-scoring pattern, and we’re tipping Palace to eke out a win 1-1. Watford failed to get on the scoresheet in three of their last four Premier League home games, and Palace are searching for their third clean sheet on the spin this weekend.

In addition, the Eagles notched exactly one goal in each of their last three meetings with Watford, and with their distinct lack of cutting edge in the final third, we can’t see them improving on that output on Saturday.
