Reason For Tottenham vs Manchester United Betting Tips

  • Each of Manchester United’s last five Premier League away games have featured fewer than three goals.
  • Tottenham have lost each of their last six Premier League meetings with the current top eight.
  • Manchester United have kept clean sheets away to Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool recently.

Tottenham’s struggles continue against top sides

Tottenham’s top four aspirations were hit by a big blow last weekend as they conceded a late equaliser against the struggling Newcastle, but with only three points between them and fourth-placed West Ham they’re still in with a shout of making the Champions League next season.

Jose Mourinho’s side have enjoyed a return to form of late, but even their record of four wins from their last six league games harbour caveats. None of these six games came against teams in the top eight, and their prospects begin to look a lot worse when you isolate their games against the better sides.

They have lost each of their last six Premier League meetings with the current top eight, and on Sunday they face a Manchester United side that have proven almost unbeatable away from home over the past year.

Away day specialists to make their mark in north London

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side picked up a crucial 2-0 win in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final in midweek to make it just one defeat in their last 15 competitive away games. In the Premier League alone they haven’t lost on the road since January 2020, winning 14 of their 22 trips since.

The last time these two sides met it resulted in a stunning 6-1 win for Spurs at Old Trafford, but those early-season shenanigans are in the past now and we can expect a much tighter affair on Sunday.

Tight affair expect on Sunday

Manchester United’s defence has improved remarkably since then, but their attacking bite has also been thwarted by injury of late. As a result, seven of their last eight and each of their last five Premier League away games have featured fewer than three goals.

They have kept clean sheets at Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool this season, so backing under 2.5 goals is our choice. We’re also opting for a 1-0 win for the visitors given Tottenham’s dreadful record against the better teams in the top flight.

Tottenham injuries and team news

Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier could miss out again after missing their Covid-19 tests during the international break, while Matt Doherty and Ben Davies are also sidelined.

Manchester United injuries and team news

Eric Bailly is out after testing positive for Covid-19 and joins Phil Jones on the sidelines. Anthony Martial is also ruled out after his injury during the international break, but Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford are both fit to play and Dean Henderson is likely to return between the sticks.
