Reason For Tottenham vs Chelsea Betting Tips

  • Tottenham Hotspur will leapfrog Chelsea into 4th place with a win on Sunday.
  • Jose Mourinho  will face off at home against a former employer for the 14th time when Chelsea visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
  • Spurs have won four of their five Premier League games since Mourinho took charge.
  • Chelsea have lost 15 matches in all competitions in 2019 – their most in a single year since 2000.

Mourinho masterminds Spurs resurgence

Jose Mourinho, for the second time this month, will take the reins for Tottenham Hotspur as they face off against one of his former clubs. This time it’s Chelsea, and despite how his last encounter with a former employer went he’ll be in good spirits ahead of this clash.

Spurs may have lost that trip to Old Trafford earlier on in December, but aside from that blip Tottenham have looked like a rejuvenated side under Mourinho’s tutelage. He has spurred them on to win all of their other four Premier League games, with the most recent being a last ditch 2-1 win at Wolves.

This excellent run of form has rocketed Spurs back into the running for a top four spot, and victory on Sunday would see them occupy 4th place for Christmas day. They sit three points adrift of Chelsea but already have a superior goal difference, so there’s a lot on the line this weekend.

Lampard’s youngsters cracking under the pressure

Chelsea’s season has been something of a mirror image to Tottenham’s. The Blues themselves looked rejuvenated earlier in the season, with Frank Lampard and his group of inexperienced young guns doing a fantastic job to win eight of their opening 12 games.

However, the wheels have started to shake over the last month or so. It started with a rather expected 2-1 loss to Manchester City, but their 1-0 capitulation at home to Bournemouth last weekend leaves them looking back on four defeats in their last five Premier League matches.

History points towards positive Spurs result

History isn’t on Chelsea’s side here either. The Blues have lost eight of their last nine Premier League away games against the traditional Big Six, and they have won just two of their last 13 away league games against Spurs. Not only that, but Jose Mourinho has won 12 and drawn one of his 13 competitive home games against teams he’s previously managed, including three victories at home to Chelsea.

Tottenham are a team on the up at the moment, and even before Mourinho’s arrival they were tough to beat at home. They have only lost one home league game this season, and with Chelsea in such poor form we think backing another home win is a great value bet.

Neither of these teams are proving themselves very defensively capable this season though, and with Tottenham averaging 2.37 goals per home game and conceding 0.87 per game we think a 2-1 correct score prediction is a good choice.
