Reason For Tottenham vs Burnley Betting Tips

  • Tottenham lost their first match under Jose Mourinho in mid-week, going down 2-1 at Old Trafford.
  • Burnley lost back-to-back home games at Turf Moor this week.
  • Both teams scored in 100% of Tottenham’s matches since Mourniho’s appointment.
  • Despite winning only once, Burnley conceded two or fewer goals in six of their seven Premier League away games this season.

Mourinho’s winning streak comes to a halt

Jose Mourinho’s early winning streak as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager came to an end in game four of his tenure on Wednesday, when the Portuguese coach was outmanoeuvred by the man who replaced him at Man Utd, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Spurs lost 2-1 to United at Old Trafford, though the final scoreline might have been a little wider had the home side been converted more of their seven shots on target.

Tottenham are back in more familiar surroundings this weekend, and Mourinho will be itching to bounce back with a win against a Burnley side who will be happy to play the role of visitors on Saturday.

Burnley happy to leave Turf Moor behind?

The Clarets were swept aside 4-1 by Manchester City at Turf Moor on Tuesday, a result that followed quickly on the heels of their 0-1 reverse at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The defeat was Burnley’s fourth loss in six Premier League outings, with the teams only victories coming in games against bottom club Watford and a West Ham outfit that had been in the grip of a crisis of confidence.

Against a Clarets team that might be a little punch drunk after their mid-week bout with Man City, Tottenham will expect to win this weekend, though Spurs’ continued fragility at the back means that a clean sheet is unlikely.

Both teams likely to score

Tottenham conceded two goals in each of Jose Mourinho’s first four matches in charge, and the club’s only two shutouts in their last 13 games in all competitions were both secured against a weak Red Star Belgrade team in a pair of Champions League group games.

Burnley, who have only failed to score twice in 11 Premier League matches, will feel like they have the tools and physicality to ruffle a few feathers in North London this weekend.

It remains to be seen if Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes will work in tandem on Saturday, though either one of the burly centre-forwards will make life very uncomfortable for a less than convincing looking Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez defensive partnership.

At the other end, Spurs have looked threatening under Mourinho’s direction however, hitting 2.75 goals per 90 minutes on average since the controversial manager’s appointment.

That mix of potent attacking play and defensive underperformance has led to both teams scoring in 100% of Tottenham’s matches under the Portuguese coach so far, and it’s in that BTTS market that we feel the best value lies for their latest assignment against Burnley.

Our correct score prediction forecasts a 2-1 Tottenham win however. The Clarets’ only away victory this season came at bottom club Watford, but despite their poor points return on the road, Burnley conceded two or fewer goals in six of the seven games they contested away from Turf Moor since the summer.
