Conclusion Stuttgart - Mainz

Stuttgart’s Struggles Continue

VFL Stuttgart were reasonably unfortunate in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Borussia Dortmund, but the result extended a dreadful run of form for Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team. They are now winless in 6 matches, losing the last 4, and have won just 1 of their last 12 games, a run which stretches back to early August, and has left them in the Bundesliga’s relegation playoff place.

Bo Svensson’s Mainz, on the other hand, would move into 5th with a win on Friday night, level on points with the Champions League places, albeit having played an extra game. They’ve gone unbeaten in 5, although they were slightly fortunate to escape with a draw against Koln last time out.

Mainz have only lost 3 times since mid-August, defeats which came in successive weeks against Bayer Leverkusen, Union Berlin, and Dortmund, all of whom currently occupy places in the top 5.  Svensson’s side have also scored in every game since 25th September, a run which should continue against a Stuttgart team whose last (and only) Bundesliga clean sheet came on that same matchday.
