Reason For Southampton vs West Ham Betting Tips
Both sides in scoring form
These two sides have been solid going forward through the campaign, setting up Tuesday’s clash as one of the most interesting from this round of Premier League games.
The pair are quite evenly matched – with just a place and three points between them going into the game. having plundered a combined 48 goals between them this campaign there’s plenty of attacking threat from both.
On top of that, the pair have shared at least three goals in seven of their last eight meetings, so our predictions in this clash favour goals at St Mary’s.
Haller can notch in high-scoring clash
West Ham head to the South-coast having seen over 2.5 goals scored in six of their seven away games so far. Over 2.5 has also landed in five of their last six in the league which points to an open game here.
Southampton have scored 1.86 goals per game at home, but they’ve only shut out strugglers Sheffield United and Fulham in their last seven games. The hosts also have a woeful record facing shots at home, letting in 16% of the shots they’ve faced.
We’re backing over 2.5 goals to be scored in this clash, while we think that West Ham forward Sebastien Haller can get in on the action. The forward scored home and away to Southampton last term and we’re backing him to follow up his strike against Palace with a goal in this one.
West Ham can continue Saints hoodoo
West Ham have won each of their last five meetings with Southampton, a run which could continue this week with Danny Ings still out and Vestergaard set to be a big loss in defence.
West Ham have also won three of their last four visits to Southampton – with each of the last two coming by a single-goal margin. The Hammers have impressed with their results on the road this term, including their surprise 3-0 win over Leicester.
With the Saints losing three of seven at home and coming into this weakened and struggling against the Hammers, we are backing the visitors here. With a high-scoring contest likely, a 2-1 win for West Ham is our correct score prediction.
Southampton injuries and team news
Danny Ings remains out for Southampton which should see Shane Long lead the line for the Saints. Jack Stephens will start at the heart of the defence with Jannik Vestergaard out.
West Ham injuries and team news
Michail Antonio remains just short of fitness ahead of this clash, leaving Haller set to lead the line. Youngster Ben Johnson may have scored against Brighton, but he’s expected to drop of the bench here
Home win: 2.31
Away win: 3.18
Over 2.5 goals: 1.93
