Reason For Southampton vs Watford Betting Tips

  • Southampton are still waiting for their first Premier League win at St Mary’s Stadium this season.
  • Watford have picked up 63% of their Premier League points away from home this season, avoiding defeat in 50% of their games.
  • Southampton have failed to win in 13 of their 18 home Premier League games since Ralph Hasenhuttl took charge.
  • Watford have only lost one of their last five meetings with Southampton.

An unhappy anniversary for Hasenhuttl

As Ralph Hasenhuttl approaches his first anniversary as Southampton manager, he’ll be reflecting back on what’s been a shocking start to the season. In fact, with matches against Watford and Norwich coming up before his official anniversary, there are many who believe he won’t even make it that far.

It’s easy to see why. The Saints sit second from bottom in the Premier League and currently find themselves on an eight match winless streak in the league. Six of these games have ended in defeat, including that 9-0 humiliation at home to Leicester last month. It will take an awful lot to wipe that memory from the St Mary’s Stadium stands.

Scope for optimism for Watford

Watford aren’t exactly having the best time of things right now either. Their 3-0 defeat at home to Burnley last weekend saw them stuck rock bottom of the Premier League table, and that 2-0 win at Carrow Road earlier this month remains their sole win of the league campaign.

That being said, there have been a few glimmers of optimism for the Hornets. Despite their lack of victories, Watford have only lost two of their last six outings under Quique Sanchez Flores, and both of those came on home soil.

For the most part, Watford are actually performing better on the road than at Vicarage Road. Their 8-0 drubbing at the Etihad aside, they have only lost half of their Premier League away days and their sole victory came on their travels.

Southampton’s winless home run set to continue

Meanwhile, Southampton are still waiting for their first home league win of the season, and they have actually only won five of their 18 home Premier League matches since Hasenhuttl took charge. Each of their last four have ended in defeat, and while we’re not expecting Watford to claim all three points we do think backing a Hornets Win or Draw Double Chance is a good value option here.

Two of Watford’s away games this season have ended 1-1, and with Southampton averaging 0.83 goals per game at home and Watford managing 0.67 goals per away game we think this is an attractive option for our correct score prediction. Not to mention that fact that both of their meetings last season ended 1-1.
