Reason For Roma vs Juventus Betting Tips
Mishap dents Roma’s start
Saturday night saw Roma draw 0-0 with Verona in their opening game of the season, but a player registration issue saw the result voided and Roma were handed a 3-0 defeat instead. That’s left them in a difficult position with Juventus to come on Sunday.
As it stands Roma are coming off a 3-0 loss to face a side who won their first game under Andrea Pirlo 3-0. The former Italian international didn’t hold back with his team selection, going with a 3-4-3 system and putting young players straight into the starting line-up. Will the good start under Pirlo continue with a victory this weekend?
Can Juve be stopped?
After winning 3-1 in their last game in Serie A last season, Roma could win two consecutive matches in the Italian top-flight against Juventus for the first time since 1995. However, that win came in May when Juve had already switched focus to the Champions League clash with Lyon.
The champions lost their final two matches with heavily changed sides, but they had already beaten Roma twice last season. They won 2-1 in January’s visit to the capital and then dumped Roma out of the cup 10 days later.
While last season tailed off under Maurizio Sarri, Juve still made a great start before the players switched off. They won seven of their first eight Serie A games under him, so we think a legend like Pirlo will be able to inspire a similar response. We’re going with Juventus to win this clash, while a 2-1 victory is our correct score prediction.
Ronaldo still crucial for Juve
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 27 goals in his last 24 Serie A matches. Ronaldo could score for the fourth time in his career in his first two games of a Top-5 league season, after 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2014/15 in La Liga with Real Madrid. That goes some way to disprove the idea that the Portuguese doesn’t start seasons well, but he also comes into this game having been in fine form since the end of the last Serie A campaign.
Ronaldo has scored five goals in his last three games for club and country, while he also found the target in a 5-0 friendly victory over Novara. The forward managed to score in both appearances against Roma last season, so we’re backing him as our anytime goalscorer prediction for Sunday night’s clash
Home win: 3.52
Away win: 2.04
Over 2.5 goals: 1.73
Under 2.5 goals: 2.12
