Reason For Rennes vs Saint-Etienne Betting Tips

Rennes conceded their fifth goal in six days on Thursday as Celtic put them to the sword to kill their chances of qualifying for the Europa League knockout stage. Julien Stéphan’s men have endured some awful results recently and this was just another one to add to the misery of the fans. Rennes currently sit 11th but are in three points of 17th so really need to buck up their ideas if they’re going to soar back up the table.

They’ve won just twice since August but to be fair they both came in their last three league matches before they slumped to a 2-1 defeat in Dijon. Rennes will be happy to be back at Roazhon Park as their home ground has been where much of their success has come this season. Of their last nine points gained in all competitions, eight have come at the home ground. They have six goals in their last two home matches and while they are still very poor at the back, they’ll be hoping to show some of that bite against Saint-Étienne.

Sainté are still to lose under Claude Puel since he joined in early October. However, it hasn’t all been plain sailing as they have drawn five of the nine matches he has taken charge of, failing to score in their last two games. Puel was brought in to bring a real defensive shape to ASSE but they have conceded six goals in their last six games and hardly look solid at the back, they were rather lucky in their last two matches with their opponents missing four ‘Big Chances’.

Saint-Étienne have created the third least chances in Ligue 1 since Puel’s arrival but they have been efficiently scoring despite this with eight goals in the six games under the Frenchman. However, they did draw a blank in both their last two games and we feel this is their lack of chance creation catching up to them which could hinder them in this game.

Four of the last five meetings between these two have been draws and with both sides hungover from their European exits in midweek, we’re backing this result again here. Rennes are without a clean sheet in their last 13 games and have seen both teams score in eight of their last nine home games in the league so we’re predicting this one to finish 1-1. Sainté haven’t been the most clinical side in the world recently but should be able to net here against a Rennes side awful at the back. The visitors have also conceded four goals in their last two away games so we can see the hosts getting on the scoresheet.
