Reason For Newcastle vs Chelsea Betting Tips

  • Newcastle have scored in five of their last six encounters with Chelsea.
  • Chelsea were unbeaten in eight games before the international break.
  • Chelsea have notched three or more goals in six of their eight Premier League fixtures this term.
  • Timo Werner bagged seven goals in his last seven appearances for the Blues.

Newcastle’s tough test

A two-week break between Premier League fixtures has allowed the negative fallout from Newcastle’s 2-0 reverse at Southampton to fester, and with the murmurs of discontent about the team’s performances becoming more audible, the Magpies are in a bit of a flap.

With Steve Bruce’s uber-defensive mindset leading to some uninspiring displays, United have been leaning a little too heavily on Lady Luck to put points on the board this season.

Of Newcastle’s 10 Premier League goals this term, three were struck from the penalty spot, one was an own goal and a further three were notched after the 84th minute, though the Magpies will need more than a slice of good fortune to beat in-form Chelsea this weekend.

Chelsea in the groove

With their raft of summer acquisitions starting to gel, a more balanced Chelsea were in the midst of an eight-match unbeaten streak in the lead up to the international break, and the Blues will expect to pick up where they left off when they get back to business at St. James’ Park.

Chelsea’s impressive run was accompanied by six clean sheets in eight assignments, while the Blues produced equally impressive numbers at the opposite end, hitting three or more goals for four games on the spin before the pause button was pressed on club football endeavours.

Hakim Ziyech’s recent rise to prominence on the right flank has made a huge difference and the Moroccan has created more big chances than any other player in the Premier League since his debut.

Three points but no clean sheet for Chelsea?

While they have rarely looked convincing, Newcastle have at least developed a handy knack of scoring this season, and the Magpies notched at least once in six of their eight league matches since the summer.

Newcastle have also found the net in five of their last six encounters with Chelsea, while it’s worth noting that the Blues haven’t kept a clean sheet at St. James’ Park since 2011.

We expect Steve Bruce’s United to bag a consolation on Saturday, though that’s where the good news will likely end for the Magpies.

Chelsea were building a real head of steam before the international hiatus, and their eight-match unbeaten surge, included four wins on the spin where the Blues rattled home a combined 14 goals.

With the aforementioned Ziyech finding his creative feet and Timo Werner looking increasingly sharp, we expect Frank Lampard’s side to have too much firepower in the final third for their host’s on Saturday, and that in turn makes the Chelsea and both teams to score our opening recommendation, while a 3-1 correct score prediction is also favoured.

Chelsea – who are the division’s leading scorers with 20 goals – found the net three or more times in six of their eight Premier League matches since September, and having plundered exactly three goals in three of their first four away tests, another treble looks possible at St. James’ Park.

Anytime goalscorer tip: Timo Werner

German international marksman Timo Werner had scored seven times in as many appearances in all competitions for Chelsea before the international break, during which the summer signing notched twice for his country against Ukraine.

With Hakim Ziyech opening up new supply lines, Werner should have chances to add to his swelling tally for the campaign at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle injuries and team news

Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Dubravka, Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie, DeAndre Yedlin and Paul Dummett are all out for Newcastle this weekend, while Steve Bruce is also sweating over the fitness of Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser.

Chelsea injuries and team news

Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz will miss Chelsea’s trip to the North East, while Billy Gilmour will continue his comeback with the club’s development squad this weekend.

Ben Chilwell should be able to feature following a knock, though veteran Thiago Silva could be rested following a taxing international break
