Reason For Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Betting Tips
United extend their run
A late Axel Tuanzebe own goal denied Manchester United all three points in what would have been a statement victory at top-four rivals Leicester City on Saturday, though their eventual draw at the King Power Stadium did at least allow the Red Devils to extend their unbeaten run.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side haven’t tasted defeat in eight Premier League fixtures since their narrow 1-0 reverse at home to Arsenal on November 11, but while results have been promising, United’s defending certainly hasn’t.
A return of just two clean sheets from their last nine top-flight assignments is a dismal haul for a team with Champions League qualification aspirations, and having shipped two goals in each of their last three games, we don’t expect United to secure a shutout against Wolves on Tuesday.
Wolves late comeback
Wolves warmed up for their trip to Old Trafford by taking a deserved point from a tough test against Spurs at Molineux on Sunday.
Wanderers trailed for around 85 minutes of the contest against Tottenham before Romain Saiss glanced home an equalizing header late on to earn Wolves the draw that their football over the course of the contest merited.
Wolves have now won only once in five Premier League matches however, and despite their Sunday fightback, Wanderers slipped into the table’s bottom half.
Goals anticipated at either end
Manchester United’s aforementioned defensive deficiencies have more often than not been masked by their goal-scoring prowess at the other end this season, and only league leaders Liverpool have plundered more Premier League goals than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side overall this term.
United have been averaging a healthy 2.65 goals per 90 minutes since they kicked off their eight-match unbeaten streak with a fine 3-1 win over Everton, though their inability to keep the door shut at the opposite end saw both teams score in six of those fixtures.
The host’s results suggest that same BTTS market holds plenty of value again when United line up against a Wolves outfit that saw goals notched at either end in five of their last seven Premier League tussles, though our 2-1 correct score prediction backs the Red Devils to eventually carve out a victory.
United – who played Leicester early on Saturday morning – will have enjoyed a longer break between games than Wolves, who competed in the latest game of the weekend on Sunday against Spurs, and the extra running power in the host’s legs could make all the difference.
In addition, with Raul Jimenez’s continued absence crucial, Wolves have found it tough to finish the the chances they manufacture, and Wanderers, who scored exactly one goal in each of their last two games, could find it tough to find the net more than once at Old Trafford.
With United’s forward play, and Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in particular, looking sharp, the top-four challengers look capable of hitting a match-winning brace against their dogged visitors.
Manchester United injuries and team news
Victor Lindelof replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back on Boxing Day before coming off against Leicester with a back problem, and both players are expected to sit out United’s game against Wolves.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a decision or two to make elsewhere too, and with fixture pile-up a factor, Paul Pogba, Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic and Mason Greenwood will all hope to add freshness to United’s team.
Wolverhampton injuries and team news
Raul Jimenez and Jonny remain sidelined for Wolves, while Leander Dendoncker and Willy Boly will be assessed closer to kick-off.
Wolves are expected to make minimal changes from the team that drew 1-1 with Spurs
Home win: 1.61
Away win: 5.75
