Reason For Manchester United vs Tottenham Betting Tips

  • Both teams scored in 100% of Tottenham’s competitive fixtures this season.
  • Man Utd beat Spurs in six of the teams’ last seven meetings at Old Trafford.
  • Both teams scored in each of United’s last four league matches at home.
  • Marcus Rashford scored three goals in his last three Premier League appearances against Tottenham.

United show signs of life

Manchester United have started to pull clear of the obituaries and hatchet pieces that followed their dismal opening day loss to Crystal Palace, though the clouds of doom are still just one bad result away from reappearing over Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s under-fire side bounced back from their embarrassing defeat to the Eagles with a trio of away wins over Luton Town and Brighton (twice) in league and cup, though United could hardly have been luckier to beat the Seagulls in the Premier League after the host’s hit the woodwork an incredible five times.

With four games under their belts, United’s players should be starting to shake off some of their ring-rust, though a meeting with Jose Mourinho and Tottenham will be stern test of their early-season credentials.

Tottenham’s cup joy

After they dropped points late on in controversial fashion against Newcastle in their last league outing, Spurs rebounded with a brace of successful mid-week jaunts in the Carabao Cup and Europa League respectively.

Jose Mourinho got one over his former club Chelsea and ex-lieutenant Frank Lampard in the league cup when Tottenham eliminated the Blues on spot kicks to book a place in the quarter finals, while a spot in the UEL group stage was secured with an emphatic 7-2 win over Maccabi Haifa on Thursday.

Spurs’ incredibly tight fixture schedule means that their meeting with United on Sunday will be their fourth game in eight days however, and though Mourinho did well to rotate his squad for his team’s mid-week contests, fatigue could still be an issue this weekend.

Goals on offer for both teams

Having conceded at least once in each of their first seven competitive matches of the new campaign, Tottenham carry a less than impressive early defensive record with them to Manchester on Sunday.

United however, have looked just as suspect in their own third, first conceding three goals to Crystal Palace and then twice to Brighton, though the Seagulls could have scored double their final tally with a little more luck.

Both teams look far more comfortable going forward than they do closer to their own goals, and with chances likely to be on offer at either end on Sunday, the both teams to score market is worth backing at the prices available.

Both United and Spurs found the net in each of the teams’ Premier League encounters last term, and though they shared the spoils when they last faced off in London, the Red Devils carved out a 2-1 win when the sides last clashed at Old Trafford.

Spurs tiredness to give United the edge?

Our correct score prediction forecasts a similar outcome on Sunday in clubs’ latest skirmish. The majority of United’s first choice stars will have enjoyed a full week’s rest between games by the time Sunday’s heavyweight contest rolls around, and with the rigours of a packed schedule likely to have a draining effect on Spurs’ energy levels, we think the host’s extra zip could be telling.

United got the better of Tottenham in six of their last seven bouts with Spurs at Old Trafford since 2014, and having lost just twice in 18 Premier League games at the Theatre of Dreams since September last year, we’re backing Solskjaer’s charges to make home advantage count.

Spurs are also likely to be without the services of Son-Heung Min for Sunday’s game after the flying South Korean picked up a thigh injury. The prolific 28-year-old notched four of his team’s six Premier League goals so far this season, and his absence severely reduces Tottenham’s cutting edge.

Anytime goalscorer prediction: Marcus Rashford

Fresh from a superb individual goal against Brighton last weekend, Marcus Rashford should be oozing with confidence on Sunday.

The rapid wide attacker was United’s difference maker in last season’s corresponding fixture against Tottenham, bagging both of his team’s goals in a 2-1 win.

The 22-year-old is off and running for the current campaign with two goals, and Rashford’s form makes him a prime candidate to register again on Sunday.

Manchester United injuries and team news

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are both still injured, while back-up keeper Sergio Romero is on the verge of a move away and won’t be available.

Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes are nursing minor ailments, though both are expected to start.

Tottenham Hotspur injuries and team news

Prodigal son Gareth Bale and prolific winger Son-Heung Min are both sidelined for Tottenham, though both players will hope to be back and ready for selection after the upcoming international break
