Reason For Manchester United vs Newcastle Betting Tips

  • After defeat to Watford, Manchester United are in their lowest position (8th) at this stage of the season since 1989.
  • Man Utd have won just two of their 11 Premier League matches against teams that are below them in the table this season.
  • Newcastle have lost only two of their last nine league matches.
  • Manchester United have seen three of their last six home league games end 1-1, and have conceded an average of 1.0 goal per game at Old Trafford this season.

Manchester United hit troubled waters once again

After a dismal start to the season, Manchester United finally seemed to have turned a corner at the start of December as they spectacularly beat both Spurs and Manchester City in quick succession. Unfortunately for them, their newfound success proved short lived.

That was under three weeks ago, but after a humiliating 2-0 defeat to bottom of the table Watford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finds his team sitting a disappointing 8th in the Premier League table – their worst position at this point of the season since 1989.

Pressure is once again mounting on Solskjaer, and it’s no surprise that people are doubting his ability to do the job. Manchester United have won just six of their 18 Premier League matches this season, and even at Old Trafford they have a meagre win rate of 44%.

Steve Bruce defies the critics at St James’ Park

It was looking like another season of crisis for Newcastle back in the summer, but the unpopular appointment of Steve Bruce as manager has worked out very well indeed so far. The Magpies find themselves 9th in the table, and they’re only behind Man Utd on goal difference coming into this game.

Newcastle are also enjoying a rather fruitful run of form. They have lost just two of their last nine Premier League outings, winning on five occasions and finding the net with regularity.

Admittedly, Bruce’s side do find it more difficult on their travels, but even that is starting to change. They have won two of their last four away games, and on Boxing Day they face a Manchester United side who have proven that they simply can’t break down teams that sit back from them.

Man Utd struggle for attacking ideas

This is obvious just looking at the results. Man Utd have beaten the likes of Spurs, Man City, Chelsea and Leicester and are the only team to take a point from Liverpool so far this season, but they struggle dreadfully when they’re not allowed to play on the counter. Just two of their 11 league matches against teams below them in the table have ended in victory, and three of their four home wins this term have come against teams more willing to attack them.

Despite all this, the hosts are touted as comfortable favourites coming into this game. Considering Newcastle’s excellent form of late and Manchester United ineptitude when it comes to breaking down teams, we think backing a Newcastle Win or Draw Double Chance is a fantastic choice.

As far as the correct score prediction goes, we like the look of a 1-1 draw. Newcastle have scored 0.89 goals per game away from home this season and face a Man Utd side that have conceded 1.0 goals per game at Old Trafford. Additionally, three of the hosts’ last six home league games have ended 1-1, so we’re backing that.
