Reason For Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips

Key points Manchester United - Crystal Palace

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in three games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit (W2, D1).
  • United have kept just two clean sheets in their last 12 games.
  • Palace have scored in eight of their last nine fixtures.
  • Bruno Fernandes ended an 11-game scoring drought for club and country with a strike against Arsenal last time out.

Conclusion Manchester United - Crystal Palace

Palace the first test of Rangnick’s tenure

Ralf Rangnick takes charge of Manchester United for the first time on Sunday as Crystal Palace visit Old Trafford.

The veteran German may well start to implement his famed ‘Gegenpressing’ tactics during his interim spell at United and we may see some early signs of that this weekend, but overall I doubt we’ll see any major changes in their approach to the game in these early weeks of his tenure.

Palace have won each of their last two trips to this part of Manchester and picked up four points in their two league games with United last season but the hosts have been in good form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure and I’m expecting Rangnick’s stint in charge to kick off with a win.

However, United are a short price in the standard match betting market so to squeeze more value out of this fixture I’m going to back the hosts and both teams to score – as clean sheets have been an issue for the Red Devils.

Palace can make a game of it

Palace drew a blank in a 1-0 loss at Leeds in midweek but prior to that they had scored in eight consecutive games. The Eagles have picked up some big results this season having beaten Spurs 3-0 and City 2-0 in Manchester this season, so there are signs they can get a goal at Old Trafford and United’s own defensive record has been questionable.

Under the caretaker charge of Michael Carrick, United managed one clean sheet in a 2-0 Champions League win at Villarreal but they conceded in both Premier League games – a 1-1 at Chelsea and a 3-2 win over Arsenal.

Rangnick is taking charge of a team that have just two clean sheets in their last 12 in all competitions and it could take some time to resolve those issues at the back but they can still claim a victory here against a Palace side who have lost their last two games. A 3-1 win for the hosts is the correct score selection, as United have scored exactly three goals in their last two home wins.
