Reason For Manchester City vs Sheffield United Betting Tips

  • Manchester City haven’t failed to score at home in the Premier League since May 2018, although they have conceded in six out of nine this season.
  • Sheffield United have only failed to score in one of their nine Premier League away days this season.
  • Manchester City have won 15 of their last 18 home league games.
  • The Blades haven’t conceded more than two goals in any of their away games so far this season.

Manchester City suffer critical blow in Premier League title race

Manchester City saw their Premier League title defence absorb a potentially fatal blow on Friday as they let a 2-0 lead over Wolves slip, losing 3-2 in the dying embers after playing for 80 minutes with 10 men.

That result leaves The Citizens in 3rd position, some 14 points adrift of runaway leaders Liverpool and relying on a miracle to stand any chance of successfully defending the title again. That miracle may be unlikely, but Manchester City need to get back in shape if they are to take advantage of any slip ups.

Pep Guardiola’s men still have a more than respectable record, winning four of their last seven in the league and winning six of their nine home league games this season. However, it’s just not on the same level as Liverpool’s performances.

Tough run ahead for impressive Blades

Sheffield United, contrary to their opponents, are in absolute dreamland right now. The Blades were widely tipped as the favourites for relegation this term, but they find themselves up in 7th position having taken 29 points from their opening 19 matches.

Their 1-1 draw at home to Watford on Boxing Day made it four games unbeaten for them, and sensationally they are still unbeaten away from home in the competition. However, with matches against Manchester City (twice), Liverpool and Arsenal coming up in the next month, things could get rather tricky for them.

Sheffield United to attack hosts’ fragile defence

Of course, much of their success stems from Chris Wilder’s fantastic tactical awareness and their defensive organisation, but they aren’t shy going forward either. In fact, they have scored in all but one of their Premier League away days this term, and on Sunday they face a Man City side that have conceded in six of their nine home matches.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester City have also scored in all of their home matches and haven’t failed to score at home in the Premier League since May 2018. Still, with their defence looking increasingly frail we think Sheffield United have a good chance of getting a goal at the Etihad.

All things considered, we do expect Manchester City to win though. They have won 15 of their last 18 home league matches, so backing Manchester City Win and Both Teams to Score looks like a good idea.

However, we’re not expecting a battering here. Sheffield United haven’t conceded more than two goals away from home all season, and with Man City winning two of their last three at home by a 2-1 scoreline we think this is the best option for our correct score prediction.
