Reason For Manchester City vs Arsenal Betting Tips
Key points Manchester City - Arsenal
Conclusion Manchester City - Arsenal
Champions kickstart title defence against Norwich
Manchester City’s season got off to a rocky start as they lost the Community Shield before falling to defeat in their Premier League opener but Pep Guardiola’s side roared into life last weekend, hammering the newly promoted Norwich 5-0 at the Etihad to get off the mark in 2021/22.
Their chances of getting a second win on the books on Saturday are high, too. They have won ten of their last 11 competitive meetings with Arsenal and have won five in a row at the Etihad. This will be a huge task for a visiting side that have already come under extreme scrutiny this season.
Arsenal find their feet in midweek
The Gunners opened their own campaign with back-to-back defeats against Brentford and Chelsea but those two fixtures were abound with selection issues for Mikel Arteta.
That burden was eased on Wednesday as he welcomed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette back into the fold, as well as giving a first start to Martin Odegaard after his return to London on a permanent basis. A morale-boosting 6-0 demolition of a strangely second-string West Brom side followed, but they face a much bigger task on Saturday afternoon.
Don’t expect many goals at the Etihad
The odds on offer for a Manchester City win would suggest a thrashing is on the cards but I expect a more subdued game at the Etihad. Manchester City are still without Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden and failed to score in their opening two games of the competitive season, while Arsenal also failed to score in their first two matches.
Four of their combined six fixtures this season have seen fewer than three goals and, while Manchester City’s record against Arsenal is excellent, only one of their last four meetings has featured three or more goals. Eight of Arsenal’s last nine in the league have gone under 2.5 goals and that’s my preference here.
I do fully expect a home win, though, and with Arsenal losing both Premier League games so far by a 2-0 scoreline that’s my choice for a correct score prediction.
