Reason For Liverpool vs Sheffield United Betting Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in four of Sheffield United’s five Premier League matches this season.
  • Sheffield United are the Premier League’s lowest scorers with two goals.
  • Liverpool won 27 of their last 28 league games at Anfield.
  • Liverpool beat the Blades 2-0 when the teams last met on Merseyside.

Liverpool pass test

Liverpool passed their first post-Virgil van Dijk test in mid-week thanks to a win and a clean sheet in Amsterdam against Ajax in the Champions League, with stand-in defender Fabinho’s superb performance at the back in the influential Dutch defender’s absence a huge plus point for Jurgen Klopp.

The victory, which was the Reds’ first in four matches, sets them up nicely for a winnable looking home game against struggling Sheffield United at Anfield this weekend, and with top spot in sight, the defending champions look massive favourites to triumph.

Liverpool’s incredible record at Anfield over the past three seasons has been well-documented. The Merseysiders – unbeaten at home since 2017 – have won 27 of their last 28 Premier League assignments in front of The Kop, and they will expect to gather another three points there this weekend.

Blades continue to look blunt

Whispers about second season syndrome are starting to be come more audible in Sheffield after United became the first Premier League team this season to drop points against newly-promoted Fulham.

The Blades needed an 85th minute spot-kick from Steel City icon Billy Sharp to rescue something from their game against the Cottagers – though the draw did at least stop the rot of successive defeats in their first four Premier League games of the new campaign.

United, who are the division’s lowest scorers, have notched just two goals in total so far this term – a paltry output that they will find tough to improve at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Liverpool should be comfortable

With Sheffield United in such horrible form, a Liverpool win looks almost certain this weekend, though we think the Blades’ robust rearguard should allow them to keep the score at Anfield to respectable levels.

Chris Wilder will be keen to avoid a confidence-shredding hammering on Merseyside, so expect to see the experienced coach deploy his team deep and compact against their marauding hosts.

Sheffield United conceded two or fewer goals in each of their five Premier League fixtures so far this season, while Liverpool – who scored exactly twice in three of their last four league matches – haven’t quite fully clicked in the final third yet this term.

A combination of those factors makes the Liverpool win and under 3.5 goals market a really enticing option at the prices quoted, while our correct score prediction backs the Reds to match their 2-0 Anfield triumph of last season in this term’s corresponding fixture.

Sheffield United failed to score in five out of eight Premier League away games since the start of Project Restart, and the Blades’ miserable early-season showings suggest they are ill-equipped to test Liverpool’s injury hit defence.

Liverpool injuries and team news

Virgil van Dijk remains a long-term absentee for Liverpool, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alisson are also ruled out. Naby Keita, Joel Matip, Thiago and Konstantinos Tsimikas are all battling to be fit.

Sheffield United injuries and team news

Sheffield United won’t be able to call upon the injured Lys Mousset, Jack O’Connell, John Fleck or Max Lowe for their trip to Anfield. Ethan Ampadu could start in defence, while new signing and former Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster will hope to be involved against his old club.
