Reason For Liverpool vs Arsenal Betting Tips

  • Both teams have scored in each of the last eight competitive meetings between these sides.
  • Arsenal have scored in 15 of their last 16 matches in all competitions.
  • Liverpool have won 19 of their last 20 Premier League home matches.
  • Arsenal have scored at least two goals in  five of their last six in all competitions.

Liverpool title defence begins in emphatic fashion

Defending champions Liverpool put down an early marker last week with a composed and convincing victory away to a Chelsea side many expected to close the gap on the top two this season. This 2-0 triumph followed on from their 4-3 thriller at home to Leeds, and they rounded off a trio of victories in midweek with a 7-2 demolition of Lincoln City in the EFL Cup.

The vast majority of their first choice players were rested for that trip to Lincoln, but a hosting of a resurgent Arsenal will see the big guns return to the starting lineup on Monday evening.

Arteta gamble reaps rewards at Emirates

Arsenal are slowly starting to take shape under Mikel Arteta, leaving an unfamiliar aura of buoyancy emanating from the Emirates fanbase. Arteta – who took charge in December 2019 – ended his first season of top flight management by winning the FA Cup and started the new campaign with a penalty victory over Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Things haven’t dipped since then, either. The Gunners come into this match having won all three competitive games this season, but a trip to Anfield will strike fear into the hearts of even the most in form sides.

Goals galore at Anfield

Liverpool have been nothing short of unstoppable at home in the Premier League, last losing in April 2017 and winning all but one of their matches there last season. The odds for a home win reflect this utter dominance but, while there attacking setup remains fearsome, there are cracks beginning to show at the other end of the pitch.

The Reds have shipped seven goals in their last three home league games and they’re facing an Arsenal outfit that have scored in 15 of their last 16 competitive matches. This fixture isn’t exactly renowned for its low-key affairs either, with both teams scoring in each of the last eight competitive meetings and a total of 33 goals being scored since the last shutout.

All this points towards both teams to score being our favoured prediction, but we also expect a Liverpool win. They have won their last four home Premier League games against Arsenal and over the last eight home league games they have averaged 3.12 goals per game. Arsenal have scored at least two goals in five of their last six in all competitions, though, so a 3-2 correct score prediction looks a tasty option.

The value in the goalscorer market comes in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Arsenal’s star attacker has scored eight goals in his last seven appearances in all competitions and found the net against Liverpool in the Community Shield at the start of the season.

Liverpool injuries and team news

The likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will return to the starting lineup after being rested in midweek, pushing Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones back to the bench.

Jordan Henderson is ruled out along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Matip, leaving a potential midfield partnership of Fabinho and Thiago to pull the strings.

Arsenal injuries and team news

Kieran Tierney could be back in action for Arsenal here, but Mikel Arteta is still faced with a burgeoning injury list.

Calum Chambers, Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi and Emile Smith Rowe all remain ruled out, while defenders Sokratis and Cedric Soares are both doubts.
