Aston Villa confirms Rory Wilson signing from Rangers

The highly-rated Scotland youth international striker moves to the Midlands after an eye-catching campaign in which he netted 49 goals for club and country.

Having left Ibrox at the expiration of his contract, Wilson has put pen to paper on his first professional deal at Villa and will go straight into the Club’s Academy system.

Academy Manager Mark Harrison said: “We are delighted that Rory has joined us having had a number of clubs interested in signing him.

“He is a goalscorer with a lot of potential, having also represented Scotland at international youth level. Wilson had captured Villa’s attention after scoring a phenomenal 49 goals for club and country last season. Having excelled for Rangers’ youth sides, he completed his goals tally for the season while representing Scotland at the U17 Euros in May.

Villa had been reportedly targeting a move for Wilson for several months , with the club finally appearing to have sealed a move for the youngster in June, despite allegedly facing competition from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. Wilson seemingly confirmed his move to Villa Park after responding to reports on social media

He has a real good thirst and mentality to want to improve and we really look forward to seeing how he develops with us and hopefully, in years to come, play for our first team.”
