Reason For Everton vs Burnley Betting Tips
Start of a new era at Goodison Park
It’s been a tumultuous couple of seasons for Everton who, despite heavy investment, have failed to fulfil their undoubted potential under Marco Silva. The former Hull and Watford boss was eventually axed, and while stand-in manager Duncan Ferguson has reinvigorated the club Boxing Day marks the start of a new era for the Toffees.
Carlo Ancelotti, one of the most successful managers in world football, has been chosen to take Everton forward. He begins with his team lying 15th in the table, just four points clear of the relegation zone and having won only five of their 18 Premier League matches this season.
However, the Toffees have shown considerable improvement since Marco Silva left the club, and they’re currently unbeaten in three games having taken five points off Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal in the last few weeks.
Burnley show promise at halfway point in the season
Burnley are by no means walkovers though. They are coming into this clash on the back of a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, a result which puts them 10th in the table and only three points off the top six.
The Clarets have won four of their last seven Premier League matches, and two of their last five trips away have ended in victory. That being said, this run does include a 5-0 thrashing at Spurs and a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United, so there are improvements to be made by Sean Dyche.
Both teams showing defensive issues this season
Defensively, Burnley aren’t the same side they were a couple of years back. They have conceded 1.61 goals per game this season and have kept just two clean sheets in their nine Premier League away days. These came against Bournemouth and Watford, two teams that are really struggling for goalscoring form at the moment.
However, they have scored in seven of their nine away games too, and with Everton scoring in six and keeping just two clean sheets in their nine top flight games at Goodison Park, we think backing Both Teams to Score is a good idea here.
Everton are undeniably talented, and a manager of Ancelotti’s stature should be able to bring that potential out in a relatively short period of time. Burnley, while successful, have been shown to struggle against teams of a higher standard than themselves. The Clarets have conceded 1.78 goals per game and scored 1.11 goals per game in return away from home, so a 2-1 win for the hosts looks like a good correct score prediction.
Home win: 1.75
Away win: 4.97
Over 2.5 goals: 1.97
Under 2.5 goals: 1.84
