Reason For Crystal Palace vs West Ham Betting Tips

  • Crystal Palace’s only home defeats this season have come against the current Premier League top three.
  • Selhurst Park has seen just 44 Premier League goals since the start of last season, averaging out at 1.57 goals per game.
  • Just one of The Eagles’ home league games this season has seen more than two goals scored.
  • Crystal Palace have scored 0.78 and conceded 0.88 goals per game at Selhurst Park this season, while West Ham have averaged 0.88 goals for and 1.22 goals against away from home.

Palace to carry optimism into second half of the season

Crystal Palace saw their four match unbeaten streak come to an end on Saturday as they lost 1-0 away to Newcastle, but as we head into the second half of the season they can’t be too unhappy with how their campaign is going.

The Eagles currently sit 12th in the Premier League table, level on points with Arsenal and just four points off the top six. The fact that they are closer to the top six than the relegation zone a this stage is an achievement in itself, and they have proven consistently difficult to beat this term.

Overall, Palace have lost seven of their 18 top flight games this season, but the vast majority of those have come against teams that are clearly better than themselves. In fact, that defeat to Newcastle was their first loss against a team outside the current top seven this season.

West Ham struggle to fulfil their potential

West Ham can’t carry the same optimism into the new year though. The Hammers continue to struggle, and even after their victory at Southampton on Saturday they find themselves down in 16th position, just four points above the relegation zone.

That being said, this is a very tight middle section of the table and things can quickly change. A victory at Selhurst Park could move them as high as 13th and leave them just a point adrift of Crystal Palace. It’s still all to play for in this mid-table and relegation battle.

Selhurst Park continues to be starved of goals

Crystal Palace have been particularly difficult to beat on home soil this season, avoiding defeat in six of their nine home matches and only losing against the current Premier League top three. However, one thing that has been distinctly missing from Selhurst Park is goals, and that’s not just limited to this season.

In fact, Selhurst Park has seen just 44 goals in the Premier League since the start of last season, averaging out at just 1.57 goals per game. All but one of their nine matches there this term have seen fewer than three goals, and only seven of their 28 games since the start of last season have been high scoring affairs.

The visit of the Hammers is unlikely to improve that record either. They have seen three or more goals in only three of their nine away games this term and have an average of 2.11 goals per game. For this reason, we think backing Under 2.5 Goals is a great choice on Boxing Day.

Palace may be difficult to beat, but they don’t have the most promising of records for winning games at the moment. Plus, they’re facing a West Ham side that have been far from terrible on the road this term, so we’re expecting something of a stalemate here. Both sides have drawn 33% of their respective home and away games this season, and three of the last five meetings between them have ended all square.

This, combined with the fact that Palace have scored 0.78 and conceded 0.88 goals per home game and West Ham have scored 0.88 and conceded 1.22 goals per away game, makes backing a 1-1 correct score prediction look a very good choice.
