After their resolve was broken late on against Everton on Boxing Day, Sheffield United’s survival prospects look already gone before 2021 begins. Things just haven’t gone right for the Blades, who prop up the table with just two points from 15 matches.

That leaves them 11 points shy of 17th placed Burnley, so their chances of staying up could be even worse by Tuesday night. The Clarets have been rooted in the bottom five all season thanks to a bad start, but recent improvement has us backing a home win in our predictions.

Sheffield United’s dismal season

The Blades have lost 13 of their 15 matches in England’s top-flight this season and remain without a victory. Chris Wilder’s side lost Sander Berge for four months through injury, leaving them exceptionally short on quality. With John Lundstram suspended, the Blades have issues to fix in the middle of the park.

The visitors head to Turf Moor having lost nine of their last 10 league games, while they’ve been beaten in six of their seven away games so far this season. The Blades have averaged just eight shots on goal per trip, while they face over 16 shots per game on their travels. That should allow Burnley to control this clash.

Back Burnley to take advantage

Burnley need to pick up points anywhere they can following a really poor start, but after losing six of their first seven the Clarets have got their act together. They’ve claimed 12 points from their last eight to lift themselves out of the bottom three.

Burnley have beaten Palace, Wolves and Arsenal in that run and after taking seven points from their last three at home they’re in a good position to beat Sheffield United. The Clarets have the 11th best defence in the league despite sitting just above the drop zone and we back them to hold firm against a Blades side who have conceded in every game.
