Reason For Barcelona vs Alaves Betting Tips
Barca remain top after El Clasico stalemate
Everything so far this season points towards an extremely close title race between Barcelona and Real Madrid, and Wednesday night’s El Clasico at Camp Nou was no exception. With the teams heading into the contest level on points at the top of the table, a game billed as a potential classic turned out to be intriguing rather than thrilling, reminiscent of two heavyweight boxers slowly feeling each other out in the early rounds of a long, grueling fight.
The 0-0 stalemate, preserved by two fine goalline clearances from Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos, keeps Barca narrowly in front via goal difference going into their final fixture before Christmas – a game which they are expected to dominate against struggling Alaves.
Prior to Wednesday evening, Barcelona had posted a perfect seven wins from seven at Camp Nou, scoring a mammoth 30 goals in the process. Unsurprisingly, they are heavy odds-on favourites to regain the winning thread on Matchday 18, against an Alaves side who have lost six from eight on the road this season.
A daunting trip for Babazorros
With just four points to their name in total away from home, only 17th-placed Mallorca and 19th-placed Leganes have picked up fewer points than Alaves on their travels this term, and Babazorros must fear the worst ahead of their trip to Catalonia this weekend.
At home, Alaves have accrued a reasonable 15 points from nine outings and have shown great competency defensively, with just five goals conceded. However, outside of Mendizorroza, they are going to pieces on a regular basis, with a huge 19 goals leaked so far. They have shipped at least twice in six of their eight away matches and have conceded four to both Osasuna (4-2) and Villarreal (4-1) in recent weeks.
This bodes terribly for Asier Garitano’s side; Barcelona are averaging 3.75 goals per game in La Liga at Camp Nou and overall confidence at the club is extremely low, with just one point picked up in their last three matches. They were also dumped out of the Copa Del Rey by minnows Real Jaen in midweek.
A question of how many for the hosts?
Ultimately, we only see this going one way and it really looks like a question of being how many for Barcelona this weekend. The champions have won the last six meetings between the sides and all but one of those victories came via a two-goal margin or more – a trend which we expect to continue this Saturday.
We’re being a little bolder, though, based on how many goals Barca have netted at home this season and Alaves’ aforementioned defensive woes, so backing the hosts minus a two-goal handicap appeals.
The shackles will probably be off Ernesto Valverde’s side following the tense midweek El Clasico, where not losing was the obvious priority. We’re predicting a 5-0 romp here for the champions, which will ensure they remain top of the pile in Spain going into the festive period.
