Conclusion Aston Villa - Wolverhampton

Villa entertain Wolves in Midlands derby

Wolves have hit some form after a tough start to the season with three wins in their last four Premier League games but their revival could be dealt a setback at Villa Park on Saturday.

Villa have lost two of their last four league games but both of those defeats were in away games, at Spurs and Chelsea, and at home they remain unbeaten with two wins and a draw from three games.

Wolves have won their last two away fixtures but those successes came at Watford and Southampton, and all three of their wins so far have come against teams currently in the bottom six.

Injuries still impacting Wolves

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has been without Pedro Neto and Jonny all season and the duo will not be available for the trip to Villa. Both would be regular starters if fit, and with summer signing Trincao also expected to miss out due to illness it leaves Lage short on options yet again this weekend.

Villa also have a few injury worries and summer buy Leon Bailey will sit this one out. The Jamaican is likely to be an important figure in the Villa squad this season but as yet he has been unable to show what he is capable of, although he has still managed a goal and an assist despite playing for just 87 minutes in total across three appearances.

Home comforts key for Villa

Villa beat Everton 3-0 in their last home game and followed that up with a 1-0 win at Manchester United before slipping to a 2-1 loss at Spurs in their last outing before the international break. Dean Smith’s men are yet to really hit top form but they have still been picking up results and should be able to overpower a Wolves outfit who have managed just five goals in seven games so far.

Wolves’ attack has improved in recent weeks and Raul Jimenez looks to be working his way back to top form after registering a goal and two assists in his last two games, while he was also on target for Mexico over the international break. Hwang Hee-Chan looks a good addition too after three goals in four games but Villa have a strong defensive record at home and that could prove the difference.

The hosts have conceded just one goal at Villa Park this season and have been slowly improving in recent weeks, despite the loss to Spurs last time out.
