Reason For Aston Villa vs Norwich City Betting Tips

  • The home side has won this fixture in eight of the last 10 league meetings.
  • Norwich have lost six of their nine Premier League away games this season.
  • Norwich have the joint worst defensive record in the Premier League and have conceded an average of 1.67 goals per away game this season.
  • Aston Villa have only kept three clean sheets at home in the top flight this season.

Villa and Norwich embroiled in early stages of the relegation battle

If you think back to the start of the 2019/20 Premier League season, many were expecting Sheffield United to struggle the most out of the newly promoted teams. After all, The Blades were on a low budget and were coming off the back of two promotions in three seasons. Meanwhile, Norwich had strolled to the Championship top spot and Aston Villa had spent over £100 million on new players in the summer.

The reality is vastly different though. Both Aston Villa and Norwich find themselves in the relegation zone, while Sheffield United are flying high in 5th position. However, we’re only halfway through the season and there is plenty that could change in the coming months.

Aston Villa have displayed glimmers of their potential this term, but it’s proving difficult to get the team to gel with so many new arrivals. Still, they have the ability to beat anyone on their day, and while they are in the midst of a four match losing streak they will feel this is a very winnable match.

Norwich’s attacking intent not paying dividends in the top flight

Norwich were praised for their attacking intent early in the season, but unfortunately for the Canaries this has rarely translated into positive results. They have lost 12 of their 18 Premier League matches so far, and the 37 goals they have conceded makes them the joint worst defensive side in the top flight.

Daniel Farke’s men may show attacking intent, but they have still only averaged just over a goal per game and they have lost six of their nine away games in the Premier League. This leaves them some six points adrift of safety, and even a win on Boxing Day is unlikely to take them above Aston Villa due to the gulf in goal difference.

Villa to draw confidence from previous meeting with Norwich

Aston Villa, for all their troubles, have managed to win three home matches this season, and they tend to perform well against teams of a similar stature. These victories have come against the likes of Newcastle, Brighton and Everton, and they have only lost two of their seven games against teams in the bottom 11.

Not only that, but this fixture historically favours the home side. The home side have won eight of the last 10 meetings between Aston Villa and Norwich, and with the Canaries in such poor form this season we think an Aston Villa victory offers some promising value, especially considering their 5-1 demolition of Norwich earlier in the season.

Away from home Norwich have conceded 1.67 goals per game this season, so we’re expecting The Villains to put them to the sword and grab a couple of goals. However, Villa have conceded in six of their nine home games, so a clean sheet for the hosts seems unlikely, making a 2-1 correct score prediction look the best option on offer.
