Conclusion Aston Villa - Everton

Villains looking to bounce back

It’s been a mixed bag for Aston Villa fans in the post-Grealish era so far, with a four-point haul against Newcastle and Brentford sandwiched in the middle of two defeats, one of which was a shock 3-2 reverse to the newly promoted Watford on the opening weekend of the season.

Their second defeat of the campaign came last weekend and, while not exactly unexpected, that 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge will have been a disappointing one for the travelling fans after watching their side squander a host of chances.

That was the first time Villa have failed to find the net this season and, with five goals in their previous three league outings, there’s plenty of reason for the hosts to be optimistic about their chances this term.

Benitez silences the critics

Everton fans have even more reason for optimism after Rafa Benitez’s blistering start to life at Goodison Park. The Toffees have won four of their five competitive games this season, scoring 12 goals in the process and silencing any early critics of the former Liverpool boss.

Many feared the worse when Dominic Calvert-Lewin picked up an injury but even his absence didn’t stop them putting three past Burnley on Monday, with Demarai Gray putting in another stellar performance on the left side of their attack. The 25-year-old has now scored in his last three Premier League appearances and the odds on offer for him to find the net again on Saturday look excellent.

Expect goals at both ends at Goodison Park

While Everton’s attack has been scintillating at times this season, they aren’t blessed with the most formidable of back lines. They have kept just one clean sheet in five competitive games and a clean sheet looks unlikely against an Aston Villa side that have scored in all but one of their outings this term, so backing both teams to score is my preference.
