Reason For Arsenal vs Southampton Betting Tips

  • Arsenal went five games without a win before the international break.
  • Southampton were beaten in six of their last seven Premier League matches.
  • Arsenal haven’t lost a league game at home to Southampton since 1987.
  • Unai Emery and Ralph Hasenhüttl are among the favourites to be the next Premier League manager sacked.

Arsenal’s miserable run

After a run of five games without a victory in the lead up to the final international break of 2019, Arsenal will hope to get back to winning ways against Southampton at the Emirates when club football resumes this weekend.

In the most recent of their five winless fixtures, Arsenal were turned over with relative comfort by Leicester City, in what looked a contest between two clubs heading in opposite directions.

With pressure from the stands and the media starting to close in from all sides on Unai Emery, the Spaniard badly needs a win to alleviate some of the ill-feeling towards him.

Luckily for the Gunners, they host one of the Premier League’s worst teams on current form at the Emirates this weekend, and Emery will be banking on picking up three precious points against a weak looking Southampton team.

Southampton being dragged under

The Saints have been in freefall since their last league win in mid-September, losing six of their seven top-flight fixtures since by an aggregate score of 23-6.

Remarkably, Southampton have won seven of their eight Premier League points this season away from St. Mary’s, though they have shown little of late to suggest that they can earn another positive away result at Arsenal this weekend.

Despite their overall poor showing this term, it’s worth noting that the Saints failed to score in only two of their twelve Premier League games since the summer, in games versus Burnley and Leicester respectively.

Southampton managed to register at least once in bouts against a number of big name opponents including Liverpool, Man Utd, Tottenham, Chelsea, Wolves and Man City already this season, and we think the Saints have the tools to breach an Arsenal defence that has kept only once clean sheet in six attempts at home this season.

That goal will likely be a consolation for Southampton however against an antagonist they haven’t beaten on their own patch in the league since 1987.

Arsenal remain formidable at home

Despite the moans and grumbles from fans at the Emirates, Arsenal are unbeaten in all competitions at home this season, winning six and drawing the other three of the nine matches they have contested there since August.

Arsenal’s ability to carve out positive results at home should stand them in good stead against a completely out of sorts Southampton team, and with the aforementioned factors acknowledged, we think the home win and both teams to score combination is priced generously for Saturday’s game, while our correct score prediction is tipping Arsenal to grab a 2-1 victory.

The Gunners rifled home exactly two goals in three of their six Premier League home matches this season, while the Saints have shipped more than two goals just once on their travels so far during their league campaign.

In addition, two of the last three meetings between the clubs were decided by narrow one goal margins, and we see their latest encounter on Saturday playing out along the same lines.
